2.3. Tea

a) Export

According to statistics of the General Department of Customs, in 2022, the whole export industry will reach 146 thousand tons with a value of 236 million USD, up more than 15.2% in volume and more than 10.6% in value compared to 2021. Vietnamese tea is exported to 70 countries and territories. In which, black tea accounted for 43.0% in volume, the average export price reached about 1,402 USD / ton; Green tea (including jasmine and oolong tea) accounted for 54% of exports and the average export price reached about 1,900 USD / ton.

About export markets:

- Major export markets accounting for nearly 90% of export volume include: Pakistan, Taiwan, China, Russia, USA, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iraq, India, UAE ...

- The largest export market is Pakistan with nearly 55 thousand tons, worth nearly 102.9 million USD, up 27.23% in volume and 20% in value compared to 2021. Tea exports to Taiwan market reached 19.2 thousand tons, worth nearly 36 million USD, up 3.2% in volume and 25.3% in value compared to 2021. Exports to China reached nearly 10.35 thousand tons, worth $ 18 million, up 15% in volume and 27% in value compared to 2021. Exports to Russia reached nearly 10 thousand tons, worth $ 16.76 million, compared to 2021 decreased by 10% in volume and 14.6% in value.

About enterprises: there are 260 enterprises and individuals participating in export. Of which, there are 10 export units from 3,000 tons or more, 8 export units from 2,000 tons to 3,000 tons and 22 export units from 1,0000 tons to 2,000 tons.

b) Evaluation

The results of the tea industry are impressive in the context of global economic fluctuations, supply chain disruptions due to the conflict between Russia and Russia and Ukraine, China's "Zero Covid" policy. The growth momentum of the tea industry is hampered by inflationary pressures that limit the demand of tea consumers of countries. Tea enterprises also face difficulties due to high freight rates and strict regulations on technical barriers, so Vietnamese tea enterprises have not met and taken advantage of opportunities from FTAs that Vietnam has signed.
